Alcaraz's Masterclass: How He Dominated Djokovic to Win Wimbledon Again

Carlos Alcaraz overpowered Novak Djokovic with his powerful baseline shots and precise passing shots, leaving Djokovic little room to respond. Djokovic managed to win only 25% of his baseline points in the second set. Alcaraz won the Wimbledon singles final 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4) by dominating Djokovic from the back of the court for the second consecutive year.

Before Sunday’s final, Djokovic was winning 50% of his baseline points (242/484). Against Alcaraz, this dropped to 41% (33/81). In the first two sets, Djokovic managed just 39% (17/44) from the baseline. In contrast, Alcaraz excelled, winning 58% (33/57) of his baseline points.

Alcaraz consistently won over 50% of his baseline points in every set, while Djokovic never reached 50% in any set. The second set was particularly notable: Alcaraz won 63% of his baseline points compared to Djokovic's 25%. This dominance helped Alcaraz secure back-to-back titles. The longest rally was just 13 shots, with only nine rallies reaching nine shots, and Alcaraz won eight of them. Djokovic struggled under Alcaraz's intense pressure on both wings.

Djokovic made frequent errors from both his forehand and backhand. Alcaraz targeted Djokovic's forehand return, successfully putting 79% (38/48) of his own forehand returns back in play, while Djokovic managed only 64% (23/46). Both players put 83% of their backhand returns in play. Overall, Alcaraz returned 74% (72/97) of serves, compared to Djokovic's 70% (62/89). These are typically areas where Djokovic excels, especially in major matches. In response, Djokovic tried to change tactics by moving to the net, but Alcaraz effectively countered with strong passing shots, especially off his forehand.

Before the final, Djokovic was successful at the net, winning 78% (143/184) of points. Against Alcaraz, this dropped to 51% (27/53). Djokovic struggled to build momentum, trailing 0/15 in five of his service games but holding serve each time, while Djokovic trailed 0/15 in six service games but only held twice. The match's tone was set from the first game when Djokovic's serve was broken after 20 points. He also lost his serve in the first game of the second set. Alcaraz effectively neutralised Djokovic's baseline strengths and made the scoreboard an additional challenge for Djokovic.
